BMW 3.0 CSL M49 Racing Engine

Nothing much need be said about one of these motors - beautiful.  These motors are incredibly rare, not too many folks run them in the few CSL's that actually had them as spares are virtually non-existent (actually, they don't exist at all).  If it breaks, YOUR making a new part.  Similar to the M12/7 four cylinder engine, these motors utilize gear driven camshafts.

Schnitzer 1.4 Gruppe 5 Turbo

I have to apologize to those following along, I have been busy (trying to earn a living here in the good old US of A) which as most know is a daunting task these days and so I have had little "car" time.  I haven't touched my ALPINA race car in well over a month.  Ok, so here is a nice shot of the 1.4 Schnitzer Turbo Gruppe 5 car.  Last I knew, Schnitzer had this one still in their showroom as a display.  They (Schnitzer) are very proud of their heritage in BMW racing and that with 2002's - they stayed with the 2002 model long after others had abandoned it for the 320 body style.  Look for more on all my blogs over the next few weeks.

New BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 .......... crashed

Looks like a very "Nascsaresque" (is that a word ...... no) on the part of the Audi.  Based on what I see (and how the announcer is announcing it) a pretty uncool maneuver.  I had read that the ALPINA was on its way to win that race.  Car look to take a pretty mean hit.

SCHNITZER 2002 Turbo (Alex Elliott?)

I am pretty sure that this is the Schnitzer 2002 Turbo Alex Elliott rescued a number of years ago and then did a full restoration with complete 1.4 liter Schnitzer Turbo motor.  This car was sold as a rolling shell maybe 15 or so years ago in England where someone (I have heard) was running a Cosworth BD motor in it.  This picture was taken at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where the car was run a few years back.

GS Tuning 2002 "Getting Air"

They did a nice job "posing" this car getting air.  I am sure the fellow driving it was having a good time.

ALPINA 3.0 CSL ...... with Squared off Fenders.....

I did a double take when I saw this picture.  Yep, squared off front fenders anyway.  I wasn't so sure about the look of those when I first saw them, now I have to say that I really like them - very unique.  I have seen a lot of photo's of ALPINA CSL's from this time period but never one with squared off fenders (front or back).  I also noted some of the same sponsors that are on my car (no surprise) in "Langnese" and Mobil SHC.

BMW Heidegger Gruppe 2 "Lemans" 1975

Maybe one of the most famous racing BMW 2002's of all time, the Heidegger Racing prepared BMW 2002.  This car utilized a BMW M12/6 twin cam 16 valve racing engine with what looks to be Kugelfischer fuel injection mated to a multi-butterfly injection manifold/throttle body.  I have only seen this one time before on a BMW factory prepared rallye car.  I would have to guess that not too many of these were fabricated by BMW as most of the BMW M12 motors utilized the slide throttle fuel injection (..or "Flachscheiber").  The butterfly style of induction would give this car better low end torque and less top end, the slide throttle giving the complete opposite. Maybe by trying to keep the RPM's down with the throttle bodies Max Heidegger's plan (to keep the engine together)???  Interesting.   Thanks to Geir Muren for these photo's.
